Official Review Ordered After Terence Crawford’s Traffic Stop and Citation
Omaha, Nebraska`s own Terence `Bud` Crawford, recently crowned as the super middleweight boxing champion, received a reckless driving ticket early Sunday morning. This incident occurred just hours after thousands gathered for a downtown parade celebrating his historic victory.
In response, Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer issued a statement on Sunday, announcing that they have ordered a comprehensive review of the traffic stop. Chief Schmaderer has also authorized an internal affairs investigation into the matter.
Officials acknowledged the circulation of a video on social media depicting the traffic stop involving Crawford. An Omaha police spokesman clarified that this video originated from a cell phone inside Crawford`s vehicle, and the Omaha police department has not released any footage.
According to the official statement, police initiated a stop on a vehicle suspected of reckless driving shortly before 1:30 a.m. During the interaction with the driver, an officer reportedly observed a firearm on the driver`s side floorboard. Consequently, all four occupants of the vehicle were ordered out at gunpoint.
The driver was identified as Terence Crawford, who subsequently received a citation for reckless driving. A passenger, confirmed to be part of Crawford`s security detail, was also found to be carrying a legal firearm. Police confirmed that all individuals in the vehicle were legally permitted to carry their respective firearms.
At Crawford`s request, a police supervisor and a lieutenant responded to the scene of the incident. Crawford, who celebrated his 38th birthday on Sunday, was unavailable for comment.
For the past two weeks, Nebraskans have been celebrating Crawford`s incredible achievement: a unanimous decision victory over Canelo Alvarez. This win solidified Crawford`s legacy as the first male boxer in the four-belt era to achieve undisputed champion status in three different weight classes, boasting an impressive professional record of 42 wins, 0 losses, with 31 knockouts.
His recent accolades also included leading the Nebraska football team onto the field for their `tunnel walk` last Saturday. He proudly wore a `168` jersey, symbolizing his undisputed championship in the 168-pound division.
