UFC Perth Suffers Setback as Key Bout Cancelled Days Before Event

The highly anticipated UFC Perth event has encountered a significant challenge, with a scheduled bout being canceled just two days before the Australia-based spectacle. This adds to the woes of an event already reportedly struggling with ticket sales.

Light heavyweight contenders Carlos Ulberg and Dominick Reyes are slated to headline the card at the RAC Arena, marking the UFC`s return to Perth. Initially, thirteen fights, including many showcasing local talent, were planned. However, one of these matchups has unfortunately been scrapped due to a fighter`s illness.

Oban Elliott Withdrawn from UFC Perth

Popular British fighter Oban Elliott, who traveled globally for his welterweight clash against Jonathan Micallef, will no longer compete. The UFC officially announced Thursday that Elliott was withdrawn from the fight due to illness, leading to the cancellation of the bout. Micallef will consequently not receive a replacement opponent and will also be removed from the card.

This follows another cancellation: the light heavyweight encounter between Junior Tafa and Ibo Aslan, which was previously called off due to an injury. These multiple withdrawals have further diminished an already lackluster fight card.

Compounding the issues, UFC Perth is reportedly struggling with ticket sales, with an Australian news outlet suggesting the venue might be only half-full on fight night, indicating a lack of enthusiasm or significant local draws.
