Merci Solo Skipper crosses treacherous oceans to celebrate his twin 18th birthday!

Perth Western Australia – 25/11/2021: Having left Noumea-New Caledonia at the helm of his Imoca MERCI on November 8, the Vendée Globe’s Skipper, Sébastien Destremau had one goal in mind. Reaching Perth in Western Australia around November 25th in order to celebrate his Australian Twins Jade and Marshal Destremau 18th birthday.

“I thought it was a nice idea to the twins. Imagine, a Dad sailing solo across the Oceans to come and celebrate this important birthday. I reckon it is a nice message for them. Okay, I could have caught a plane, but it wouldn’t be as pretty would it.” said the Skipper.

The conditions of the trip varied from dead calm to fifty knots plus head wind across bass Strait. “It wouldn’t be the infamous Sydney-Hobart stretch of water if there wasn’t a storm when you sail thru Bass Strait would it !! ” was how the skipper summed up the almost three weeks at sea ending today with Jade and Marshal’s birthday.

Merci will be staying in Perth just a few days before departing Western Australia around December 10, for the long trip back to Europe.
