Hamilton admits to ‘strange transition moment’ in F1 career
After a record-breaking career at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton’s final year with the team isn’t producing the championship fight many expected.
Following a controversial defeat at the hands of Max Verstappen in the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that cost him a potential eighth title, Hamilton and Mercedes haven’t been able to match the pace of Red Bull's dominant machines.
Verstappen appears poised to claim his fourth consecutive championship this year, leaving Hamilton and Mercedes frustrated once again.
It's against this disappointing backdrop that Hamilton's upcoming move to Ferrari next season takes on even more significance.
However, despite the switch, Hamilton insists his decision isn't driven by unhappiness with Mercedes or a breakdown in his relationship with the Brackley squad.

"For me, this whole journey has been massively emotional,” the seven-time world champion told CBS. “Just because I have so much love for this team.
“I'm not leaving because I'm unhappy there. I'm not leaving because of relationship issues.
"They've been with me through thick and thin. So, it's definitely a strange transition at the moment.
Acknowledging the pressure to win that defines Formula 1, Hamilton discussed how a lack of championship contention alters a team's mindset.
The Briton emphasized the importance of constantly striving for improvement and motivating the team, admitting his enjoyment of this challenge.
However, Hamilton also conceded a hint of frustration, suggesting a limit to his patience.
"We exist to win. And when you're not winning, your perspective has to shift,” he said. “And it's just then about chasing and it's about improvement. It's about coming together.
“How can we make improvements? How can we get back to where we want to be? And rallying everyone up. I actually really enjoy that experience.
"But, three years in? I've had enough of this! Let's get back to where we belong."
