Abu Dhabi GP Speed Trap: who is the fastest of them all?

0 10

Long straights, low-speed corners and changing temperatures pretty much sum-up Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit, a popular venue among F1's teams and drivers.

As a medium-high downforce track, Yas Marina requires an optimal compromise between low-speed grip and straight-line speed.

With that prerequisite in mind, Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari was the fastest car to blast through the speed trap in qualifying, the German just edging Renault's Daniel Ricciardo.

However, for all its muscle and power down the straights, the Scuderia's SF90 was once again outpaced by its Mercedes and Honda-powered rivals over a full lap.

Yesterday's poleman Lewis Hamilton was a laggard - in relative terms - on the straight, conceding almost 9km/h to Vettel.

But the six-time world champion and his W10 Silver Arrow were unbeatable in the corners, and especially in Yas Marina's twisty third sector, an area that clearly underscored Ferrari's big weakness, a familiar theme this season.

It could be a long final race for Vettel and Charles Leclerc this evening...
