Arsenal interested in signing 26yo Brazilian star with £43.5m asking price
Arsenal have emerged as fresh contenders to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson during the summer transfer window, according to Marca (page 18).
The Brazil international has been a key player for the Serie A outfit over the past few years, but he is expected to leave during the next transfer window.
Ederson’s current deal expires in June next year, and Atalanta seem prepared to sanction his sale for around £43.5 million at the end of the campaign.
Marca today claim that Atletico have proposed paying £30.5m upfront for the versatile midfielder with a further £4.3m in add-ons to secure an agreement.
They are still far from reaching a deal with the Bergamo outfit. Sporting director Mateu Alemany has travelled to Italy due to the ‘Premier League threat’ from Arsenal.
Arsenal could prise Ederson away from Atalanta
Ederson has been one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders. He has been linked with a move away from Atalanta for some time and could finally pursue a new challenge.
The 26-year-old had an injury-hampered start to the campaign, but has since been ever-present in Atalanta’s midfield, operating from the number six and number eight roles.
The Brazilian ace has completed almost 90 percent of his passes in Serie A. He has also been solid defensively with two tackles, 4.4 recoveries and 4.4 duels won per outing.
Ederson has lost possession on just 7.7 occasions per game and has caught the eye with his long-ball distribution. He has registered almost three long balls per match for Atalanta.
Arsenal have been touted to sign a marquee midfielder this summer. Atletico have proposed almost £35m for Ederson, while Atalanta are reportedly holding out for £43.5m.
A £40m package could be sufficient to secure an agreement. The Gunners have been credited with an interest, and it remains to be seen whether they make contact with Atalanta.
