New European Aquatics national water polo rankings announced
European Aquatics has published the new national team rankings, which are based on the results achieved in the last two years at the various senior and age group European Water Polo Championships. Spain tops the combined men’s and women’s chart, ahead of Hungary and Greece.
Not surprisingly, Spain are ranked first with a comfortable lead, as they are first among the men and the women. Their teams barely failed to make the podium at recent events and these successes have given them a substantial lead ahead of the Hungarians.
The Top 10 combined men’s and women’s nations are listed below, and the complete men’s, women’s and combined lists can be accessed via the links underneath.

The Magyars claimed most of their points from their age-group successes, as their senior national teams didn’t land medals at the Europeans (which has barely happened before).
Greece and Italy are next in the line since these two countries are equally strong in both genders. At the same time, Croatia, which sits second in the men’s rankings, just a few points shy of Spain, place fifth in the combined list.
In the stand-alone women’s ranks, Greece are second behind the Spaniards, ahead of the Netherlands.
Ranking points are awarded in line with the final placings at each European Championships, weighed according to the category of the events (senior tournaments give the highest amount, U19/20 is next, and so on) and calculated with the full amount for 2025 and with a 0.5 multiplier for tournaments held in 2024.
