Sports Briefs: Tam water polo boosts playoff hopes with win over San Rafael

Freshman Jasper Feldman scored a team-high five goals and added three assists and three steals to pace host Tam to a 16-5 win over San Rafael boys water polo on Tuesday afternoon. The win was much needed for the Red-tailed Hawks (9-6, 3-3 MCAL), who are trying to secure a berth in the MCAL playoffs, which begin Oct. 29th.

Fields Palmer tallied three goals for the Red-tailed Hawks and Bern Kent, Declan Murphy and Max Lippiatt added two goals apiece for Tam. Charlie Bussi scored four goals to lead San Rafael (8-13, 2-6 MCAL).

Tam fell to Miramonte, 15-6, in a nonleague game Monday in Orinda. Andrew Sternfels scored two goals and goalie Ethan Wallace made seven saves for the Hawks.

• Matthieu Giauque scored a game-high five goals to lead Marin Academy past host San Domenico, 16-6, on Tuesday. Finn MacDonald led the Panthers with two goals. San Domenico goaltender Demyd Korshak had 13 saves in the game.

• Archie Williams got off to a solid start and held on to defeat Novato, 15-10, on Monday.

Girls water polo

Kelly Kurtzig scored a game-high four goals as Marin Academy beat host San Domenico, 19-5, on Tuesday. The Wildcats added three goals each from Elle Parisi and Lily Sharif. Lauren Kurtzman led San Domenico with three goals.

• Archie Williams defeated Novato, 16-0, Monday.

Girls golf

Marin Academy’s Kelly Lundgren took medalist honors with a 9-over 45 at Metropolitan Golf Course to lead the Wildcats past host Holy Names, 206-233, on Tuesday. Sterling Colpitts shot a 51and freshman Harper Nutting turned in a 54 for the Wildcats (11-2). The regular season title will be on the line in Thursday season-finale when the top three teams in the Bay Counties League meet at Peacock Gap, with St. Joseph playing Marin Academy and San Domenico. The BCL tournament is scheduled for Monday at Peacock Gap.

Girls tennis

San Domenico earned on win on the court and another by forfeit during Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to International. The Panthers’ No. 3 doubles team of Coda Swaim and Piper Papay won 6-7, 6-4, (2).

• Siena Michelson of Archie Williams High shut out Novato’s Nina Griffiths in singles play t lead the Peregrine Falcons to a 7-0 sweep on Monday. Michelson won the No. 2 singles matchup 6-0, 6-0. Maya Evans, Kathleen Schalit and Sarah Chamberlin also won in singles play for the Falcons.

Field hockey

Junior Lucy Jeffers matched her two goals with a pair of assists as Redwood rolled to a 11-0 victory over winless Archie Williams on Monday. Senior Maya Saibel and sophomores Ellie Washing and Kaitlin Stewart also scored two goals each for the Giants. Jane Broderick, Nina Baker and Moni Hewlette also scored for Redwood (12-6-3, 9-2-2 MCAL), which is scheduled to visit Marin Academy on Wednesday.

Men’s golf

Dominican University placed 19th with a 82-over par finish after 54 holes at the season-ending Otter Invitational on Tuesday at Bayonet Golf Course. Jerred Scott led Dominican as he improved his score with each consecutive round at the invitational. Scott opened with a 78 on a cold damp course that bogged down play at the course. In the second round, Scott opened with three pars and two birdies before going on to shoot a 5-over 77 after concluding the second 18 holes on Tuesday morning. Scott saved his best for last as he shot par on 13 holes with two birdies to finish at 1 over to lead his team on the afternoon and move into a tie for 49th at 12 over for the tournament.
