Marin Briefs: San Anselmo’s Woodhead eying World Championship with Team USA Water Polo

The USA Women’s Youth National water polo team defeated Spain, 13-9, to advance to the semifinals of the FINA Youth World Championship. Jenna Flynn led the offense with five goals in the victory. San Anselmo’s Ella Woodhead netted a goal in the fourth period as Team USA took an 11-4 lead to put the game virtually out of reach. Team USA will take on Italy on Sunday in the semifinals.

Baseball

The San Rafael Pacifics finally found out who they will face in the second round of the playoffs. The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers, 6-4, on Friday to advance to the Pecos League Pacific Conference championship against the Pacifics. The best-of-three-series is scheduled to begin Monday at 6 p.m., with the second game Tuesday and the third game, if necessary, on Wednesday. Albert Park will be the host site for the series.

The Saguaros won the regular series against the Pacifics, taking two of the three meetings.

Hall of Fame

The Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for athletes, coaches, special recognition, and team categories. Athletes must have graduated in 2008 or before and participated in any sports
activity while at Redwood.
