[Volleyball] Volleyball takes down Truett McConnell

0 6

CLEVELAND, Ga.  – Volleyball defeated the Truett McConnell Bears 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 28-26) Tuesday night, grabbing their second consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference victory. The Cavs currently sit at 8-13 (4-5 AAC) this season.

The Cavs jumped out strong with the lead in the first set. Other than going down by one point a couple of times midway through, they rode the lead all the way to an opening-set win. The squad quickly went down 10-1 in the second set, and despite battling back to an 18-18 tie, dropped the frame. The Cavs responded well as they never gave the Bears a lead in the third set. In the final set, Montreat was up 18-11 before the Bears tied it at 24. The Cavs were forced to take it to 28, but ultimately came out on top in the set for the match win.

"In the first set we just came out really strong and kind of stayed ahead the whole time," said head coach Kristy Kamer. "We came back strong after the second set and pushed through to the end of the fourth to take the match."

Katie Stanton, China Brown-Woolfolk, and Taylor Rouse all put up double-digit kills with 14, 11, and 10 respectively. In normal fashion, Vivica Nogueira posted the team-high digs with 19. Katie Mabe and Hannah Wyngarden each contributed seven each. Abby Graham led the team with 26 assists as Bella Huerta was right behind with 23.

"I'm really proud of them. It was a great battle, and they worked extremely hard tonight. I had three girls with double-digit kills, so that really helped. Our hitting was a lot better tonight as well," said Coach Kamer.

Up Next: The Cavs kick off Montreat's homecoming weekend this Friday night, Oct. 5 with a match against St. Andrews at 6:30 p.m. ET.
