[Men's Tennis] Leonardo Urquidi Named GSAC Player of the Year
SANTEE, Calif. – The SDC men's tennis team may not have won the GSAC regular season or the tournament title, but the Hawks boast the best player in the conference.
Leonardo Urquidi was named the GSAC Player of the Year the conference office announced Wednesday. Urquidi was selected by the coaches in the conference as he tallied an 8-7 record in No. 1 Singles and a 10-3 in No. 3 Doubles for SDC.
Urquidi was a member of the All-GSAC team in 2016 and 2015 and a Second-Team NAIA All-American in 2015.
Urquidi wasn't the only one who earned recognition from the conference. Aliaksandr Meliuk also made the 2017 All-GSAC Team. Meliuk spent most of the season at No. 2 Singles for SDC. On the season, he posted a record of 9-5 in singles and an 11-3 record at No. 1 Doubles, the best doubles in the conference.
The Hawks currently rank No. 13 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll and will await an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship in Mobile, Ala.
