Lloyd Glasspool becomes 1st Longhorn to earn world No. 1 pro tennis ranking

AUSTIN (KXAN) — He won the 2015 NCAA men's doubles champion with Søren Hess-Olesen for the Longhorns, and now he's the best doubles player in the world.

Lloyd Glasspool is the first Longhorn to achieve a world No. 1 professional tennis ranking in either singles or doubles. Glasspool starred for Texas from 2011-15, earning three All-America honors (two in doubles, one in singles) to go with his doubles title.

The 31-year-old Birmingham, England, native paired with Julian Cash to win Wimbledon in July, marking his first Grand Slam victory. The duo recently made it to the semifinals at the Cincinnati Open in their latest action, losing the match in two tiebreakers. Cash is the No. 2 player in the world rankings.

Glasspool joins Steve Denton, Kevin Curren and Wilmer Allison as Grand Slam winners who played collegiately at Texas.

Glasspool is 50-12 on the season with six titles and just over $1.3 million in ATP Tour earnings. He's been playing with Cash since September 2024 and the pair has won seven tournaments together.

The next major, the US Open in Queens, New York, is in qualifying stages and officially begins Aug. 24 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The men's doubles draw will be released Aug. 27 with play starting Aug. 30.
