Smooth Radio’s Kate Garraway and Jenni Falconer take on rooftop tennis

0 4

Smooth Radio presenters Kate Garraway and Jenni Falconer have taken part in a light-hearted tennis challenge above London’s Leicester Square.

Inspired by Wimbledon, the duo faced off on the roof of the Smooth studios, adding a musical twist to the match by shouting out songs by selected Smooth artists with every shot.

In the first round, the pair had to name George Michael tracks. Kate admitted she found it hard to get going, saying she’s made “peace with failure”.

However, she made a comeback in round two during the Elton John segment, while Jenni playfully threw down her racket after a missed shot.

The third and final round focused on Movie Musicals and ended in a tie, with both players showing off their rallying skills. Jenni said afterwards: “It was a lot of fun, but we need to keep an eye on Kate – she’s a lot more competitive than we realised.”

Jenni presents Smooth Breakfast each weekday from 6am, with Kate following on mid-mornings from 10am. Both said they enjoyed the challenge, despite some sore arms the next day. Kate added: “I have quite a backhand – it surprised me!”

The challenge marked a fun moment for two long-time colleagues, who first met while working on GMTV 25 years ago. Jenni arrived dressed in full tennis whites, while Kate joked her preparation was “a blow dry and fake tan”.
