K-State tennis' Jordan Smith discusses spring season, Chogsomjav and more on K-Nation

MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Spring tennis season in full swing, and the Wildcats are off to another strong start under head coach Jordan Smith.

Smith is in his seventh season as head coach at K-State, after serving as an assistant coach for three seasons. He joined K-Nation's Caroline Soro for a one-on-one interview ahead of the team's first Big 12 match of the spring. When asked about the ceiling for his group, Smith said there is no 'ceiling'.

"We don't know where this team can go, and that's why we want to keep challenging them," Smith said. "Hopefully in May we can look back and say 'Hey, did we live up to what we were capable of or did we come a little bit short?' And I'm buying in that we're going to overachieve."

The Wildcats have this week's Big 12 Player of the Week on their side in Maralgoo Chogsomjav, who earned the honor for the first time in her career. The sophomore has continued her winning ways after picking up All-Big 12 first team accolades as a freshman last season.

Smith says the Chogsomjav has had to adjust to opposing coaches game planning for her.

"The way she went into last weekend just saying 'If you believe in yourself, you're going to do amazing things,'" Smith said of Maggie's mindset. "That definitely made the difference in winning against Iowa and getting her to Big 12 Player of the Week, because of that belief that she had."

The full interview with Smith aired in Sunday's episode of K-Nation and can be watched above. K-Nation airs every Sunday night following 27 News at 10, only on KSNT.
