Djokovic was hit with a bottle which had fallen from a fan’s backpack whilst he signed autographs for spectators.

Spectators had been leaning over to have their hats and tennis balls signed by the 26-time Grand Slam champion.

The Serbian fell to the floor in pain as security rushed in before Djokovic was slowly shepherded away.

Despite the incident, the 36-year-old was back on court on Saturday.

He arrived to practice in good spirits, wearing a bike helmet over a white cap as she signed tennis balls for his supporters.

Djokovic was all smiles as he left his fans in hysterics with his headgear.

Fans were equally amused by his antics on social media, with one writing: “How can you not love him?”

Another added: “He has such a fantastic sense of humour.”

Djokovic was hit on the head after beating Corentin Moutet in straight sets.

The top seed comfortably booked his place in the third round in Rome with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

He will now take on Alejandro Tabilo next on Sunday as he bids to win a seventh Italian Open.
