Marin Briefs: Tennis teams court title showdown
Second-seeded Branson and No. 5 Marin Academy will both play in the North Coast Section Division 2 semifinals at Golden Gate Park on Saturday.
The Bulls defeated No. 7 Bishop O’Dowd, 4-3, at College of Marin, on Thursday. At the top of the laddder, Anna Rende led a sweep of singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Mirabel Arlander, AUdrey Gilmor and Katie Warren also won their singles matches for Redwood.
Meanwhile, The Wildcats defeated No. 4 Head Royce, 6-1. With Marin Academy and Branson on opposite sides of the bracket, the opportunity exists that they could meet in the finals, which would be held Saturday after the semifinal matches.
• In NCS Division 1 action, top-seeded Redwood cruised to a 6-1 victory against Maria Carrillo on Thursday in Larkspur. The Giants play No. 4 Miramonte on Saturday at San Ramon High School in the semifinals.
The Giants’ Ella Povio scored a clean sweep at No. 3 singles, and Annesley Krawitt and Julia Laury also won their singles matches. Redwood swept doubles play.
Golf
Longtime Terra Linda High School golf coach Steve Troya reported he sunk a hole-in-one Friday at Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma. Troya pulled out his 9-iron the 110-yard 15th hole and swung for the green for the hole-in-one, his eighth.
Troya had been at Rooster Run on October 24 as a marshal during the North Coast Section Division 2 tournament, where the Trojans’ Piper Egan was competing.
