MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 15 ranked San Diego Christian College women's tennis team's 2021 campaign came to a close on Tuesday with a 4-1 loss in the first round of the NAIA National Championships to the No. 18 Reinhardt University Eagles of Georgia.

The Eagles grabbed the early momentum and the lead, securing the doubles point with 6-3 victories over Rinaldi/Sottile and Damiani/Felix. The pairing of Tatiana Harvey and Franzi Niederle were close to victory in their match, leading 6-5 when the other two matches ended.

In singles, Tomi Felix earned SDCC's lone point of the match with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 victory over Reinhardt's Taylor Nelson.

After dropping her first set 2-6, the Hawk's Tatiana Harvey was mounting a comeback, taking the second set 7-6 (10-5) and leading in the third 4-0 when the match was secured by Reinhardt.

A first set victory got Angelika Sidorov, off to a promising start. She was on the cusp of securing a point for the Hawks, but lost a hard-fought tiebreak in the second set and ultimately conceded the third.

Senior, Valentina Sottile split the first two sets with her opponent and was tied 3-3 in the third set when the match was halted.

Angela Rinaldi (4-6, 3-6) and Barbara Damiani (4-6, 2-6) were defeated in straight sets.

As disappointing as the loss was, the season was a success nonetheless, with the Hawks capturing the GSAC regular-season crown with an undefeated conference campaign. The future is very promising for the young team with only two seniors graduating.
