0 53

Doane University Women's Tennis has taken great strides since the program struggled and was unable to field a team in 2002 and 2003. Having built the program into a potential conference contender, the Tigers learned this week that three players have earned ITA Central Region rankings, becoming the first players in program history to earn a regional ranking.

Amber Weston (FR/Mead, Colo.), the 2020 GPAC Women's "A" Division champion, was the highest ranked Tiger coming in at No. 12. Brylee Lauby (JR/Lexington, Neb.), the "B" Division runner-up, earned a spot at No. 14. Ava Macke (JR/Omaha, Neb.), the "A" Division runner-up, came in at No. 19 for Doane. The duo of Weston and Lauby, the GPAC "A" Division champions, are ranked No. 4 in the region.

Weston is 4-1 on the season in two meets. Lauby is 3-2 in two competitions with Macke sitting at 2-2 on the year. The team of Weston and Lauby is 5-1 on the year with semifinal finish at the regional championships.

The Doane University Men's Tennis program, tri-champions of the GPAC in 2019, has one player ranked. Jorge Chevez (JR/Panama City, Panama) sits at No. 3 in the regional rankings after finishing last season at No. 4. Nationally, Chevez is ranked No. 39 in the first rankings for the 2020-21 season, finishing 46th last year with a top ranking of No. 15 in November 2019. Chevez is 7-1 on the season in two invitationals and one dual.

The Tiger tennis teams will return to action in February 2021.
