Razorbacks lose in tough battle to Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team (6-4) fell to SEC foe Texas A&M, 4-0 Sunday afternoon inside the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

After coming up short to Texas A&M in the same matchup a season ago, the Razorbacks could not overcome an early deficit as the Aggies took both the doubles and singles points.

DOUBLES

The doubles point went in favor of the Aggies as they posted wins on courts one and three leaving court two unfinished. The Razorbacks first combo of Lauren Alter and Tatum Rice fell to Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith 6-2. On court three, Dorthea Faa-Hviding and Lucia Quiterio defeated Laura Rijkers and Thea Rice, 6-1 to clinch the doubles point.

SINGLES

With an uphill battle in front of them after falling short in doubles, Arkansas’ focus shifted to singles. The Razorbacks were in contention late in several opening sets, but the Aggies were able to hold off the Razorbacks to maintain momentum. Zerulo and Alter were the only Hogs victorious in their first sets.

Courts two and five were the first to fall Sunday afternoon as Goldsmith knocked off Tatum Rice in a tiebreak of, 6-4, 7-6, while from the No. 5 position Kelly Keller suffered a setback, dropping a three-set decision of 2-6, 6-1, 4-6 to Quiterio.

Texas A&M clinched the match on court three when junior Faa-Hviding edged out Carr, 6-4, 7-6.

Arkansas saw three matches go unfinished as courts one, four and six went without a verdict.

Up Next

The Razorbacks will be on the road March 8 as they go head-to-head in Columbia, Mo. against Missouri. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
