[Men's Tennis] Westmont Knocks Off Men's Tennis in GSAC Tournament Semifinal

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Looking to avenge last week's loss to Westmont, the SDC men's tennis team was unable to overcome a 2-1 doubles deficit as they fell to the Warriors 5-3 Thursday in the GSAC Tournament semifinal match.

The loss drops SDC out of the tournament and now have to await a decision from the NAIA Selection Committee to see if they will make the National Tournament.

Innocent Tidimane and Nick Bell captured the first point of the match with an 8-3 doubles win at the number three position. But Westmont grabbed wins at No. 1 and 2 Doubles 8-6 to take a 2-1 lead.

Westmont was able to grab their third and fourth points rather quickly into singles. Nick Bell was defeated 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 Singles and German Ziella fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 as the Warriors led 4-1, needing just one more point to clinch.

Tidimane broke through for the Hawks in singles play with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 4 Singles to keep SDC in the match. Aliaksandr Meliuk was able to grab the second point for SDC winning at No. 2 Singles 6-3, 6-4 for the third point.

But John Joens defeated David Samardzija to clinch the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 as Westmont advances to the final on Friday.
