Little waves here and there

0 4

Hello Friends,

Lovely sunny start to Tuesday along the beaches. Wind was light early and, though it’s come around to the ESE as of 1000, the Bureau says it shouldn’t get much above 10 kts. So, a little texture maybe, but not bad.

Swell-wise there were small waves around at optimally-aligned exposures, eg mid-Steyne, mid-Curly, inside Longy, etc. The MHL data from 0800 was showing a metre from the east at about 8 seconds apart. That meant quite soft and weak looking waves (the hero pic above is definitely an exception).

Tides are mellow too. We had a 0.48 low at 0730 and will see 1.32 high at 1325.

I’m pleased to report that tomorrow is shaping to be a little improvement on today as we see an increase in both size and period on the east swell. Plus skies should be sunny and winds light all day.

By Thursday morning conditions could really come together as the swell gets over the 2 metre mark and periods stretch out to a juicy 11-13 seconds. On current reckoning Friday should see energy levels inching up while wind also increases in strength – but hopefully remains offshore. And, if the more excitable swell models prove correct swell could be into the 3-4 metre range for the weekend. The long range call for next week is looking less dramatic, but very surfable…

Have a great Tuesday!

Weather Situation

A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is extending a ridge to eastern New South Wales and maintaining generally easterly airstream over much of the coastal waters. Meanwhile, a tropical low over Coral Sea is deepening and heading south towards the northern Tasman Sea, bringing fresh southeasterly winds along the north coast and large powerful waves midweek, before tracking into the southern Tasman Sea later in the week. Then, a strong cold front looks set to sweep the coastal waters on Thursday through Friday, with fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds in its wake.
