Chris Hemsworth Reveals Surfing Is His ‘Happy Place’ on Theo Von Podcast (Video)
In the world of celebrity surfers, Chris Hemsworth is probably at the top of the list when it comes to level of skill, commitment, and love for the sport.
Take a scroll through the actor’s social media pages, and half the pictures are product endorsements or movie promos, and the other half are surfing.
And recently, during an appearance on Theo Von’s wildly popular podcast, This Past Weekend, the Australian actor discussed his love for riding waves.
Towards the end of the episode, Von, in his signature rambling manner, asked Hemsworth about where he goes for solace, self-reflection, et cetera. Hemsworth replied:
“For me, I enjoy physical movement. Surfing is an obvious one. I’ve done that since I was 10 years old. If I spend too long out of the ocean, my whole being starts to suffer in some way or another. Not just vitamin D, but the ocean has some sort of magnetic pull for me. That’s my true happy place. I spend a lot of time surfing.”
Recently, while on the ground in Fiji for the World Surf League’s ultimate iteration of the Final Five format, which took place at Cloudbreak off the island of Tavarua, Hemsworth was there with his family to watch the event. I was there, too. And knowing that Hemsworth is a big surfer, as well as a fan, I pulled him aside for a chat. He graciously obliged.
My main question? Did he have regrets about choosing acting over professional surfing?
“If I could wave the magic wand, I’d probably choose the surf career. No complaints with the path I’ve chose. But how about this – instead of career choice, let’s think about it like talent choice. I’d rather be doing what these surfers are doing on waves, than what I’m doing. I just sit back, and watch in awe. I get a huge kick out of it.”
Very kind of him to take a few minutes away from his family.
Anyway, back to Theo. While talking surf, Hemsworth asked the host if he ever indulged. To which, Theo responded:
“I used to live in Charleston, South Carolina. I would surf out there some. I could do it, but I would need to go focus on it.”
Let’s get Theo back out there, among the ranks of other comedian and celebrity surfers, like Colin Jost, Bert Kreischer, and Pharrell Williams.
