Looking fun for Tuesday morning
Hello Friends,
An absolute corker of a morning along the beaches. Wind was still light westerly at 0900. Swell direction has moved around to the ESE. It was 1.6 metres at 9-seconds when the MHL buoy reported in at 0700. So, that means the waves aren’t especially powerful, but they should be in the chest-plus range at the best exposures. Naturally given the pretty conditions and the fact that most people are in holiday mode, you can expect lots of others to be in the water with you. Blend the holiday vibe with the Aloha spirit and you’ll be perfectly fine.
Next tide is the low at 1130. Water should be clean everywhere and around 21 °C. Today’s high will be a mild 23°C and radiation levels will be extreme from 1100-1700.
Tomorrow should see light and variable winds for the early session, plus the models are indicating an increase in both size and power for the next three days or so. If they’re right, New Years Eve should see the energy levels push up into the 2 metre, 12- second range by the afternoon. New Year’s Day is shaping to be similar but with southerly wind and cloudy weather.
As we head into the first weekend of 2026, the pulse will likely have faded away, leaving us more typically summery surf conditions, ie a metre or so 6-8 second, east-ish wind bump and NE wind by mid-morning.
Have a top final Tuesday of 2025!
Weather Situation
South to southeasterly winds are gradually turning east to northeast as a high pressure ridge over the coastal waters is weakening. Then a trough will brush the coastal waters midweek, bringing a surge of fresh southerly winds along the coast, and this will be followed by another ridge extending from a high passing to the south of the state.
