Sunday morning surf

0 3

Hello Friends,

The wind was SSE from yesterday evening until 0600 and then it swung around to the north – just in time for the first surfers paddling out. The swell swung too overnight, going from the east to straight south, and jumping from a metre to nearly 3 metres. The period went from 6 seconds to nearly 10.

That straight south direction means that most of the energy is going parallel to the coast, but the longer period will mean increased refraction, so that the swell lines bow out from the primary direction and start bending into the coast.

At Dee Why sets were big enough to get into the chest high range along the beach, but seemed to be smaller at the point.

The swell is predicted to start tapering off this afternoon, but the wind is predicted to be SW by then too, so who knows, there might be the odd clean and fun one at your fave south magnet for the late arvo sesh.

With any luck, the energy sticks around in the surfable range through tomorrow morning. Beyond that, it looks like we should have at least a little something Tuesday morning and maybe another bump into the fun size range Wednesday.

Go well!

Weather Situation

Southerly winds are forecast to turn northerly through today, ahead of a series of fronts and troughs expected to bring southerly surges to the coastal waters from this afternoon until Tuesday. Following this, winds should ease and turn northerly as a high pressure system enters the coastal waters mid-week.
