Not much of a beach day
Hello Friends,
It’s dullsville along the beaches this morning. The already tiny swell is, if anything, smaller still. As of 0600 the MHL buoy was seeing 1.1 metres of 12.5 second SSE swell. In theory that should mean something vaguely catchable at optimally aligned spots. Figure sort of knee to maybe waistish I’d say. Wind was 9-13 kts from the north at report time and skies were partly cloudy. The wind will pick up as the day warms to the summery high of 27 C along the coast. Water’s on 19 and the first tide of the day is a 0.69 low at 0910.
Outlook is for the small conditions to continue into mid next week when the models show a gradual but small increase in energy levels.
Kinda typical spring conditions really.
Your correspondent will next report from the other side of the Pacific where, it has to be said, immediate surf prospects are fairly similar to Sydney’s. Postcards to follow at irregular intervals!
Weather Situation
Northerly winds are strengthening as a high pressure system over the Tasman Sea moves further away while a cold front approaches from the west. This front and its associated trough will bring a west to southwesterly change to southern and central coastal waters later today through Wednesday, before the front moves away to the Tasman Sea and the trough weakens over the northern coastal waters. Then, a ridge of high pressure will drift across the coastal waters midweek ahead of the second cold front that looks set to cross the coast on Saturday.
