Smooth and lumpy swell
Hello Friends,
Although there’s a strong wind warning for NE’rs later, as of 0830 the choppy conditions hadn’t kicked in – and there was shoulder to head high (on the rare sets) 2 metre 8-second NE swell. There weren’t too many people in the water though, which is rarely a good sign. Beachwatch warns that pollution is possible today (hardly surprising given all the rain) and that water temp is on 19 C.
Weather outlook is for a run of milder daytime temps and a gradual decrease in the wet stuff with a mostly sunny Tuesday next week currently in prospect.Surf prospects for the week ahead, you ask? Well, the Mighty Goat has uncovered the surf crystal ball and made his pronouncements for your consideration.
Speaking of the Goat, both he and I are going to be traveling soon, so expect more lumpy input from us while we’re out and about. Will be gallivanting through much of September (him) and much of October (myself), so reception will be cutting in and out.
Have a good one and catch you again tomorrow.
Weather Situation
A trough lies near the coast while a high pressure system over the southwestern Tasman Sea is slowly drifting eastwards, bringing east to northeasterly winds along the coast. The trough will continue to move offshore today, while another trough brushes the coast on Saturday, with fresh southerly winds in its wake. These two troughs may interact and form an offshore low pressure system before heading further eastwards, then winds will tend northerly early next week as a high pressure ridge drifts across the state. Then, a series of cold fronts looks set to cross the coastal waters mid-next week.
