TENERIFE SLAB STYLE
Tenerife locals Jochen Stolz (E-174) and Martin Ovsik (CZ-66) took young talent Standa Bem (CZE-222) to a local wave normally reserved for bodyboarders. The wind lined up just right, and it turned into a fun, fast, and punchy pre world cup warm-up. Here’s their take on it:
Martin: “Windsurfing is hands down the best sport in the world, but it’s also completely at the mercy of the weather. While we’ve been waiting for the forecast to improve, we scored a pretty unique session.
This slab normally breaks in summer and hardly ever with wind, but this time the stars aligned. Respect to the local bodyboard crew… we hit it on a slightly off-tide, but still got nearly three hours of solid riding in before handing it over to them.”
Standa: “This place is next-level sketchy. The reef is super shallow, the wave breaks fast and hard, and it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
It’s the kind of spot where one mistake means busted gear or worse. But when it works, it’s insane!”
Jochen: “This slab rarely fires, and when it does, it’s usually packed with local bodyboarders. It’s one of the fastest waves on the island, with one chunky section that throws you into the air if you time it right.
After taking one on the rocks and walking back to the peak, I had a chat with the arriving locals; we agreed to clear out once they paddled in. Luckily, the vibe was chilled that day with small waves and solid wind, so everyone got their turn. Windsurfers first, then the boogies and surfers. A perfect little warm-up session before the PWA competition!”
