Clean but very small this morning

0 5

Hello Friends,
Had to use the dehaze filter in Photoshop for the picture this morning as we seem to have a fair amount of dust in the air. Wind was coming from the WNW at 8-10 kts as of 0830 but, as they warned yesterday, the Bureau has hoisted the ‘Gales’ pennant to warn that we’re in for 30-35 kts of NW out at sea later this morning.
Meanwhile, as you can see from the pic, it was almost unsurfably tiny at Dee Why this morning thanks to the 1 metre or so of 9-second east swell. The Bureau tells us the swell’s going to bet smaller as the day goes along, but tomorrow we’re looking at the prospect of south swell in the 3-5 metre range later in the day. The wind’s going to be fiercely offshore from the SW, so conditions will only be suitable for the fittest, most experienced riders. The rest of us get to be landlubbers for a day or two before the conditions dial back to something more approachable.
The good news is that we could well have solid surf through Saturday, then smaller, but still surfable conditions as we head off into the first week of June.
Go well everyone!

Weather Situation

A strong cold front and an associated trough are crossing the coastal waters today, with strong to gale-force west to southwesterly winds in its wake. The change will be followed by large and powerful waves mid to late this week, but winds will tend south to southwesterly and gradually decrease during the period as a ridge extending from a strong high pressure system over the Bight becomes the dominant feature.
