Stormy and southerly day coming up

0 33

Hello Friends,

Too rainy for pictures so far today. If RealSurf HQ gets a break in the showers, I’ll try to grab a snap for you.

The Bureau tells us we’re in for 20-30 kts of southerly, but at 0730 the wind briefly went around to the WSW and that should potentially make for smoother surface conditions in the corners. Out at sea the swell was 2.5 metres at 12 seconds from the SSE, so there’s enough energy in the system to deliver head high+ sets at the better exposures.

The Bureau tells us that we can expect the solid swell setting to remain in place through Friday, but we’ll have to get lucky with the wind for the early sessions. Right now the swell models are showing heights dropping from around 2 metres on Saturday morning to 1.5 m by the afternoon. However, the wind call is for SW, so with any luck you’ll get a wave either before or after you vote.

Have a great Wednesday, and remember, there are early voting locations at the Mall, Bilarong reserve, Terry Hills and Avalon for Mackellar voters.

FYI, unlike previous elections there’s no early voting at Mona Vale Hall. Dr Sophie Scamps’ campaign volunteers* have been on hand there to tell people where the early voting locations are this time around.

An important reminder, you must number every box on the House of Representatives Ballot Paper for your vote to count!

*fun fact, Dr Sophie’s 1500 volunteers are all unpaid Northern Beaches locals

Above taken at noon: wind SSW 13-22 kts, swell at sea 3.5 metres at 10 seconds from the SSE

Weather Situation

A low-pressure system over the Tasman Sea continues to head eastwards, while a high-pressure ridge extends across the state’s west. A series of troughs look set to brush the state’s east bringing windy conditions and powerful waves along the coast during today and for the next few days. Winds and waves will ease later this week as the troughs head to southeast Queensland and this will be followed by a strong high-pressure system drifting across Bass Strait. The high will maintain onshore east to southeasterly airstream along the coast as it enters the Tasman Sea during the weekend.
