Glassy waves to be had

0 2

Hello Friends,

Mostly cloudy skies as Tuesday kicked off, but the wind was coming lightly from the west (!) and yesterday’s south pulse was still producing waist to chest plusses for Dee Why surfers. As of 0500 the MHL data was showing 2.3 metres at 10 seconds from the S by SSE (170°). Tide is currently running into the high of 1.44 m at 1135.

From the downward trend of the swell energy plus the forecast call for , it looks like the best plan is to hit it asap before the NE wind kicks in around mid-day.

If Tuesday’s not a goer for you, there should still be little knee plus bumps at the south magnets. From Thursday into mid-next week isn’t looking too promising on the models. If they have it right, it looks like more cloudy to showery weather and short-period sub-1 metre wind swell through to around Tuesday when the GFS shows a long-period pulse (with rain). The ECMWF model shows no change to the short-period stuff until late next week, for whatever that’s worth.

Have yourself a top old Tuesday one and all!

Forecast issued at 4:10 am EDT on Tuesday 18 March 2025.

Weather Situation

A high pressure system over the Bight extends a ridge along the coast while a southerly change associated with a trough is crossing southeast Queensland, bringing fresh winds in its wake. The high will move eastwards, entering the Tasman Sea by Tuesday and maintaining a ridge towards the north coast resulting in northeasterly winds from Wednesday. On Friday, a weak southerly change will advance along the southern coast as a cold front slips to the south while the high in the Tasman maintains a ridge over the northern coast.
