Another messy day

0 2

Hello Friends,

As expected, the SSE to ESE wind was still doing its thing this morning. At 0700 the MHL buoy was showing 2.9 metres of 11.8-second east swell and as the pictures show the combination was doing anything for the beaches between Dee Why and North Narrabeen. And judging from the Bower camera, even a well protected spot like that was lumpy and bumpy.

In line with what the swell models have been showing for days, this morning’s marine forecast from the Bureau tells us to expect 15-20 kts of SE wind for the next three days. We’ll see what the Goat thinks about the longer term surf prospects later today, but my quick take is that it could be mid-next week before the ’round the clock onshores back off.

Something extra for you today:
Democracy works best when we citizens let our representatives know what we’re concerned about. Voting is essential of course, but between elections, events such as this conversation on mental health sponsored by Northern Beaches MP, Dr Sophie Scamps,  are good opportunities for us to up our democracy-participation game!

Weather Situation

A series of high pressure systems passing to the south of the state extend a ridge along the southern and central coast whilst Tropical Cyclone Alfred (Category 2), currently 300 kilometres east of Gold Coast, is heading towards southeastern Queensland, making a coastal crossing in southern Queensland coast during Friday. This will bring strengthening easterly winds, reaching gale to storm force about the far north coast, and large powerful east to northeasterly swells for the rest of the week. Winds and surf conditions will gradually ease later Friday through the weekend as Alfred makes landfall and weakens while heading inland.
