Hello Friends,

The surf energy has been slowly fading since Wednesday and this morning at Dee Why saw knee to waist high waves appearing now and then. Swell at sea was 1.8 metres from the S by SSW at 10 seconds apart – ie, mostly pushing away from the coast. Winds before 0830  were WSW at 6-8 kts (at 0400 it was straight south), but we can expect them to drift around to the SE soon and then move to the NE by this afternoon. First tide of the daylight hours is the 0.76 low at 0945. There’s only a small tidal swing to the 1.12m high at 1525. Weather should be partly cloudy and 26. According to Beachwatch the water is clean but cooler at 22.

As for the surf outlook, I’m looking forward to seeing what the Goat thinks, but my quick scan of the models indicates a drift into the marginal zone. We could see sub-10 second, metre-ish, mainly easterly bumps into mid-next week.

Forecast issued at 4:33 am EDT on Friday 21 February 2025.

Weather Situation

A trough near the Hunter and Macquarie Coasts is forecast to weaken and be replaced by a ridge of high pressure today. During the weekend the centre of the high pressure system will reach the Tasman Sea with northerly winds increasing along the southern half of the coast. Later Sunday or Monday a trough or cold front looks set to bring a southerly change to the southern half of the coast.
