Firing up this morning

0 3

Hello Friends,

As anticipated we have an autumnal conjunction of sunny skies, an offshore breeze and  2.3 metres of 10-second SE swell. It’s not a morning for beginners at Dee Why. The beach was looking over matched by the energy and it appeared that all the action was at the point where sets were head to head plus. The energy is coming at us from east around to south, so I expect there will be numerous surf options along the beaches today. The Bureau tells us to expect SW wind into the early afternoon, but thereafter to move around to the SE. Tide was low at 0640 and will be back to a moderate 1.4 metre high at 1240.

Tomorrow the wind may be okay for the early, but the trend is for a swing to the east quarters. At the same time swell is expected to throttle back a touch and become straight south. Thursday and Friday currently are shaping to be smaller, weaker and accompanied by onshore wind.

So, if your skill level’s up to it, get in asap!

Weather Situation

Fresh southerly winds and surf conditions are gradually easing as a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea continues heading to New Zealand and a high pressure ridge becomes dominant along the coast. A series of cold fronts are forecast to brush the south, producing another surge of southerly winds about the southern coastal waters, while a trough develops near the coast midweek. Then, winds will turn northeasterly later in the week as another high pressure system drifts across Bass Strait and moves to the Tasman Sea ahead of a cold front that looks set to cross the state on the weekend.
