Energy bumping up this morning
Hello Friends,
The swell picked up yesterday afternoon and as of 0500 the MHL buoy was detecting 1.8 metres of 11-12 sec east energy. Unfortunately at 0600 the wind swung from the SW to the SSE so, as you can see from the pictures the waves were starting to look choppy. The Bureau says the wind will go around to the NE and by this afternoon will be a summer standard-issue 15-20 kt NEr. Tide hits a 1.84 metre high at 0910, so that was taking its toll as well. But, with all that said, sets were into the shoulder to head high range at the point and along the beach. It might not be clean, but at least there’s some energy to play with.
We’re headed to a high of 28 with a 60% possibility of an afternoon shower. Water’s rated as “pollution unlikely” for Dee Why and the satellite data says the ocean’s 24.
The swell models are showing east swell energy levels sticking around the current intensity – give or take – over the next few days as they build to a peak in the 2+ metre range by Sunday. The problem is that winds are going to be a factor the whole time. At this stage it looks like building wind from the northerly quarters through Friday and then we switch to southerlies for the weekend. And the weather’s shaping to be showery across that time period as well.
Have fun with your Wednesday everyone!
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea, together with a trough along the coast, are bringing onshore northeast to southeasterly winds along the coast. Winds will become northeasterly through the midweek as the trough weakens and the high moves to New Zealand, then the next cold front and its associated trough looks set to cross the coastal waters at the end of the week, with a fresh and gusty southerly change in its wake.
