Dull and tiny this morning

0 3

Hello Friends,

Good on those folks having a go this morning at Dee Why. Chasing gutless,  knee high little shories for 2-3 second rides in 9-12 kts of southerly wind is true dedication. As you can see from the MHL chart below, at 0600 there was 2.7 metres of 10 second energy coming from the S-SSW – so yeah, there’s energy, but it’s running parallel to slightly away from the coast. Hence the dribble in south corners like Dee Why. It’ll be a bit bigger at better exposures but then of course the wind’ll be more of an issue.

The marine forecast for tomorrow predicts the addition of some SE swell energy to the mix by tomorrow morning, so just maybe there’ll be a brief window of opportunity before the southerly wind ramps back up. The Bureau doesn’t tell us what sort of period to expect, but the models are showing around 7 seconds, which is pretty marginal. And the weather will be similar to this morning too. So not utterly hopeless, but not the worst thing to miss out on either.

Beyond that, the outlook is for swell to go around to the east as we head into the weekend, but average periods remain in the 7-8 second range and wind outlook is for increasingly easterly breezes in the 8-10kt range.

Kinda blah you’d have to say.

Anyway, have a great day and remember that the waves always return.

Weather Situation

A low pressure trough over the central coast will continue heading north and reach Mid North Coast today before stalling along the north coast until the weekend. Meanwhile, another trough will brush the far south coast midweek, and this system will be followed by another high pressure system drifting from the Bight to the Tasman Sea later in the week, maintaining onshore easterly winds through the outlook period.
