Smaller but still a few waves to be had
Hello Friends,
Wednesday started off with a partly cloudy morning, a light NNW breeze and 1.6 m of 9 second SE swell. The tide was running out to the 0915 low when I grabbed the pics. Not quite as many people in the water at the point as this time yesterday and the beach too looked a bit less busy. I’d call it waist to chest on sets with the odd bigger one.
We’re heading to a toasty 35 high along the beaches and the wind’s expected to be 10-15 kts from the north until a blustery 20-20 kt south change arrives this evening. Weather outlook is for a couple of potentially showery days to finish the work week.
This morning’s swell models continue to tell us that tomorrow will be a write-off at most places thanks to the southerly. You might find something semi-surfable in a corner, but we’ll need to wait until Friday for the morning session options to improve again – although I’m not expecting much more than some waist-ish high wind swell at south exposures. We’ll see what the Goat thinks tomorrow, but my quick take from the GFS and ECMWF models is that next week will not be a memorable one for Sydney surfers. Basically we’re looking a 7-8 sec metre-ish wind from the east for the front half of the week and slightly bigger short period stuff from the south in the latter half.
Go well everyone!
Weather Situation
A broad high pressure ridge extends along the coast from a high in the southern Tasman Sea. Then, a trough will move across much of the coast throughout today and Thursday as a gusty southerly change, reaching Sydney Waters as a southerly buster this afternoon, before another system moves across later this week.
