Hello Friends,

Swell is now around to the ESE and heights at sea as of 0700 were 2.5 metres on average with a period of 11.8 seconds. Surface conditions were being textured by a light WNW breeze and the swell overall still has a raw look to it. But as the pictures show, it’s looking pretty dialled in at Dee Why with consistent action at the point and wedgey overhead sets along the beach. Tide’s coming off the modest 1.25 m high at 0655 and is currently dropping to the 0.6 metre low at 1220. While the swell is subsiding, it’s not looking like getting back to really small until around Wednesday (when it looks like we could be in for an extended period of marginal to near flat conditions). Weather promises to be mostly sunny today with light and variable wind. The only sour note is the water temperature which is now down to a bracing 16 C which for skinny critters like myself calls for more insulation than my 3/2.

It’s still too intense for beginners today, and intermediates will want to study conditions before committing.

Go well, stay safe and have fun!

Weather Situation

A high pressure system southeast of Tasmania is combining with a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea to produce enhanced winds and large and powerful waves along the New South Wales coast. The low will continue to weaken and drift east over the weekend, with winds and seas abating. A weak trough may cross the coastal waters south of Newcastle during Sunday before being replaced by a weak ridge.
