Rainy from daybreak

0 4

Hello Friends,

The Bureau’s forecast tells us that the wind will go SE soon, but as of 0600 it was still coming lightly from the west. Out at sea, the swell was 2.2 metres at 8 seconds from the SE and it was raining at RealSurf HQ. The tide was running out to the moderate 0.6 m low at 0900.

An intense low pressure system is located not far off the SW coast of NZ and the fetch is pretty much aimed right at us, so it’s not surprising that the Bureau is warning that by tomorrow the south swell will be thundering in. Heights are currently predicted to be in the 4-6 metre range by tomorrow afternoon, and it’ll likely hold at that intensity into Monday. As the swell builds on Sunday, the Bureau tells us that the wind will swing SW and be 20-30 kts. Obviously most of us will be watching rather than participating in the action. It could be mid week before conditions moderate enough for beginners. Certainly between tomorrow and about Tuesday it’s shaping to be suitable for only the fittest, most experienced riders.

I’m hoping to get out and about with the camera, so stay tuned.
