The Goat’s Suf Forecast

0 33

Surf forecast issued Friday 31 May 2024: Seven day outlook for Sydney

Surf was small to nothing at most places today, but the Bureau expects an ECL (East Coast Low) to develop off the coast over the weekend. With fresh southerly type winds forecast, what will it mean for the surf??

Now that I’ve woken him up from his post late lunch slumber, TG is here to help you out with that…

First we’re starting to get cooler water temps off Sydney as the East Coast Current starts its seasonal retreat northwards. We’ve also got the start of  the north bound whale migration season, as those sensible creatures have learnt over quite a long time that the Antarctic is not a happy holiday destination in winter, so they head north to play in warmer waters. Some humans even do the same.

So what about the surf?? Well as usual there are pros and cons, and Ts and Cs …Assuming things go as expected with the ECL particully its location and the timing of the wind, then for the weekend the Surf will likely be up but conditions will be windy and rainy and messy. Things might start to be a bit more user friendly by about say Tuesday.

So with those provisos etc the Surf Outlook is

Saturday: small at first then starting to come up into the 1-2 metre range East South East (but with wind and rain and messy even horrible conditions)

Sunday: up some more, say 2-3 metres East South East (ditto)

Monday: dittoish at places open to dead South, possibly more (and dittoish)

Tuesday: starting to ease back a bit say around 2ish metres at dead South spots

Wednesday: somewhere in the 1-2 metre range East South East

Thursday: hmm up again say around 2 ish metres East South East

Friday: somewhere in the 2-3 metre range East South East.

Stay safe. Stay warm.
