Happy New Year, sorry about the surf
Hello Friends,
Not exactly an auspicious start surfwise to 2024, but there ya go. Dull grey skies and 9-14 kts of NE wind combined with 1.3 metres of south swell at 12 seconds was not adding up to much of anything at Dee Why. Not that it matters much, but tide was low at 0600 and is currently running into the 1.6 metre high at 1225. As you can see from the picture, there were only a few bods in the water braving the junky and tiny conditions. I waited for someone to catch a wave, but eventually gave up and settled for the snap you see above.
If you’re really desperate for a wave, I’d head to a north corner and hope for something in the knee to waist high range on sets.
While there might possibly be a little dribbler at first light tomorrow, but beyond that, the swell models are looking less than wonderful for the next seven days. If they have it right, the weather will be mostly showery and the swell at sea will struggle to get above the metre mark. A good week to devote to other activities from the look of it.
Go well!
Weather Situation
A trough is lingering over the far northern waters while a high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the remainder of the coast. Another trough will develop over inland New South Wales and move east during the week, bringing a southerly change to southern and central waters on Thursday, before reaching the northern waters on Friday.
