Sunny waveless Monday

0 59

Hello Friends,

The pictures tell the story. There’s about a metre of 9-second dead south swell out at sea, which is too weak to really wrap into our beaches. Not that it matters given the lack of swell, but wind has been E-ESE since yesterday and it’s set to stay that way during the morning before it moves to the NE in the afternoon.

Both the GFS and ECM models are showing the short period energy levels persisting into the weekend. Swell direction looks like going more to the easterly quarters and maybe coming up a bit, while wind patterns look summery, ie light from the north for the early, but going NE by midday. Both models are currently showing a 6 sec period, S-SE 1.5 meter-ish swell late in the weekend, but they diverge about next week, with GFS currently showing 2.5, 8 sec straight south on Monday evening – with, of course, 17kts of southerly on top of it. The ECM model says “nah, gonna be light easterly with 6 sec, 1 m east bump.” As we all know, predictions this far out are speculative, to say the least.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Weather Situation

Northeast to southeasterly winds will gradually turn northeasterly today as a high pressure system near Tasmania moves to the Tasman Sea. This high will maintain a ridge along the New South Wales coast for much of the coming week, with northerly winds increasing mid-week as another trough over the inland moves further east.
