Full but fun at Curly this morning

0 23

Hello Friends,

A hot, 36C day coming up for Sydney, so it’s good to see some waves at the E magnets this morning. As the pictures show, the NNW wind was producing offshore conditions at Curly, what’s maybe a little less obvious is how much the high tide was affecting the waves. It was consistent enough, and the size was into the head high range on the bombs, but despite the 1.2 metre SSE+NE combo, the 1.79 m high tide at 1021 meant most waves were too fat to get into. And then, if you did, you might get a nice first turn, but by the time you hit your cutback, the shoulder was just about gone.

The Bureau tells us that the wind should stay N-NNW all day and the NE swell component should increase. So, mid-tide could be interesting…

Tomorrow is expected to be very different. A south change should hit and the southerly swell should increase as the NE component fades. Tuesday should be smaller as the average period drop to 6-7 seconds. Wednesday looks cloudy and with north wind and a new NE wind swell. By Thursday the swell models are showing stiff offshores and potentially solid 2 metre NE swell in the 10-sec range with sunny skies. Could be the pick day…

Have a top old Sunday everyone!

Weather Situation

A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is slowly drifting east, extending a ridge towards the northern coastal waters today. A trough will bring a strong southerly change to the southern waters this afternoon and evening, which will weaken as it moves further north on Monday. After this, the high pressure system will re-establish itself, generating increasing northerly winds along the New South Wales coast. On Tuesday a cold front may bring a southerly change to the far southern waters before a low pressure system forms and then deepens over southeastern Australia on Wednesday, with winds tending westerly later.
