Swell big and raw

0 105

Hello Friends,

Heaps of swell piling into Dee Why this morning and a reasonable crew was in the water at the point by 0700. It looks as though the bomb sets are turning up pretty regularly to give the crowd something to do. Set wave faces are still in the 1.5x overhead range and as you can see from the pics, the overnight (and continuing) NW wind is giving the 1.8 metre 12-sec ESE swell (120°) a raw, choppy and bumpy look. Tide was high at 0740 and will be back to the low at 1310. Weather should be partly cloudy with only a 10% chance of rain as we head to a high of 19.

Swell is set to weaken across the day, while the wind’ll pick up from the north. So, expect the point to become more chopped up and up the beach toward Longy to possibly look a bit more useful. The Goat was way, way up north last time I heard from him, so I’m not sure if he’ll be in a position to offer his thoughts for the weekend and beyond. A quick glance at the models suggests that there should still be fun size waves tomorrow and then it looks like energy levels will lull toward the tiny end of the spectrum into the front half of next week…

Go well, stay safe and have a top old Thursday!

Weather Situation

A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the northeast of New South Wales with northerly winds, as a cold front approaches from the west. This front is forecast to bring a westerly change on Saturday, after which a low pressure system associated with the front is expected to reach the Tasman Sea. Meanwhile, hazard surf conditions, from a powerful southeasterly swell, are expected to ease this evening.
