Chris Mathews from the Michael Reid Gallery is also a veteran eastern suburbs bodysurfer and handplane rider. I’d called him about interviewing photographer Tamara Dean for Photo Review magazine, and during the course of our chat, his passion for waveriding somehow came up.
Weird, I know.
I mentioned that by strange coincidence I had planned to yammer about handplanes on my next ABC Sydney surf report, so I was all ears. Anyway, arising out of that, he said he’d send me a picture or two…
