Werder Bremen cancel US pre-season citing safety concerns and ‘immigration’ issues
February 23 – German club Werder Bremen have called off their summer tour of the United States because of safety concerns.
The Bundesliga club, which had planned to stage matches in Minnesota and Detroit, justified its withdrawal because of the political climate in Minneapolis and strong disagreement with the current US administration’s immigration policies.
A club spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic: “In Minnesota, two people were shot dead by state authorities.
