Bulls Strike A Deal With The Knicks, Add Much Needed Frontcourt Help
The Chicago Bulls are not done making trades. Last night, they added a fifth deal to their overhaul process and are most likely still not done making changes. This one was the most puzzling of the bunch and returned the weakest package. The quickest red flag after Arturas Karnisovas got done with his first wave of trades was the number of guards on the roster. While this trade might dump one of them, it still leaves six guards that expect playing time after Thursday’s cutoff, whether it’s in Chicago or via another trade. What’s AK’s latest move, and what’s his checklist for today?
Swapping Dalen Terry For Guerschon Yabusele
Dalen Terry was drafted by the Bulls in 2022 in the first round and never reached his potential. This was partially due to a lack of a genuine, consistent opportunity in the rotation, and also because his all-around skill set was not at the level of Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, or Tre Jones. He’ll head to the New York Knicks, who’re sending 30-year-old Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele to Chicago. This is a lateral move for a position of need. The Bulls have lacked size and strength all season. Yabusele solves that issue. He’s an aggressive rebounder and physical defender, which will be cheap and potentially be a trade asset in the future.

Yabusele has had a unique career. With a five-year gap between his second and third seasons playing in the NBA, his first two years were very different from his last couple. His first stint saw more G-League action than on the big stage, but upon returning to the league, he averaged 27 minutes per game, 11 points, and nearly 6 rebounds. Chicago is hoping he can revert to last season’s production, given the opportunity.
Still Have Work To Do
This trade adds a little cap flexibility, a decent rotational piece during the rebuilding phase, and much-needed rebounding. However, it does not check the box for one of the top two things Karnisovas needs to do before this afternoon. Adding a center, preferably a young and athletic one with rim-protecting abilities, and dumping guards are the biggest needs. They are currently carrying Ayo Dosunmu, Tre Jones, Josh Giddey, Jaden Ivey, Anfernee Simons, and Collin Sexton. Assuming they don’t move Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, or Jaden Ivey, this leaves four names to fill two roster spots. According to Joe Cowley with the Chicago Sun-Times, Karnisovas has the same mindset.
Ayo Dosunmu, and newly-acquired guards Collin Sexton and Anfernee Simons are still trade candidates, per source. The Bulls still feel like they have a lot of work to do … now and carrying on into July.

Who does AK have his sights set on, and which guard will it cost to make it happen? He’s also got five recently acquired second-round selections to sweeten a deal. How does he finish up a chaotic deadline season in Chicago?
