Pope Leo XIV Is In Fact A White Sox Fan
When it was revealed that Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as the new Pope, many Chicagoans immediately wanted to know where his baseball allegiances stood. And there was some conflicting information early on. Each fanbase claimed him as their own, with news stations unable to determine a definitive answer. The Cubs’ official X account even mistakenly claimed him as one of their own. But after some investigation, the answer was revealed. Pope Leo XIV is a proud White Sox fan.
Dana Rebik, a reporter with WGN, went straight to the source. She spoke with Pope Leo XIV’s brother John, who gave as concrete of an answer as you will find.
“He was never, ever a Cubs fan. So I don’t know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan,” Prevost said.
Obviously the biggest question surrounding Chicago native Robert Prevost now that he is Pope Leo XIV: Cubs or White Sox? His brother gave the definitive answer to @WGNNews' @DanaRebikWGN pic.twitter.com/DvMiGZ0qHY

Interestingly enough, neither of Pope Leo XIV’s parents were White Sox fans. Prevost mentioned that their mother was a Cubs fan, while their father was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Nobody else in the family is a White Sox fan besides Pope Leo XIV, according to his brother. He grew up in Dolton, roughly 17 miles south of Rate Field, which could explain his White Sox ties.
Wins have been hard to come by for the White Sox this year, but put one in the W column for Pope Leo XIV.
