Chase Meidroth Returns To White Sox Lineup
Chase Meidroth returned to the White Sox lineup on Thursday after a 10-day stint on the injured list. The White Sox also moved recently acquired infielder Gage Workman to the 10-day injured list with a right hip flexor strain.
Meidroth had been nursing a thumb injury, which had been a nagging issue dating back to a few days before he got called up from Triple-A Charlotte.
He was left out of the starting lineup on April 20th at Boston, but was brought into the game as a defensive replacement. However, he could not swing a bat due to the swelling on his right thumb. X-rays taken on his thumb were negative. Instead of forcing the issue, the team decided to err on the side of caution and place him on the injured list.
Meidorth has gotten off to a hot start since getting called up to the big leagues, slashing .269/.387/.269 in his first 31 plate appearances. He has showcased good plate discipline, drawing five walks during that stretch.
Getting him back at the top of the lineup should give the offense a boost while limiting the number of at-bats for the struggling Jacob Amaya. Currently, Amaya is the only true shortstop on the roster. However, with Meidroth back and Josh Rojas set to return soon, the White Sox should have more middle infield flexibility in the coming days.
