MLB Screws Cubs Pitcher Shōta Imanaga

0 2

Earlier this week the Cubs won another classic at Wrigley Field, beating the Dodgers 11-10 in extra innings. The game began with Shōta Imanaga on the mound, making the start for the Cubs. The lefty gave up five runs, but only two of them were earned as a Gage Workman error in the first inning eventually led to a two-out, three-run homer by Tommy Edman.

Imanaga went 5.2 innings, giving up two more solo home runs. It wasn’t his best outing, but the left-hander kept the Cubs ahead while he was in. Imanaga exited the start with a stellar 2.38 ERA, which would currently rank near the top-10 in the National League among starting pitchers.

But wait, hold on. That error was charged during a Shohei Ohtani at-bat? We’ve already seen MLB with the fastest review for fan interference in Japan that seemingly handed Ohtani a home run against the Cubs and now the league is reversing an error to give Ohtani an extra hit.

So, instead of two earned runs charged to Imanaga on Tuesday it’s now officially five, raising his ERA up to 3.18 now.

Huh, MLB just couldn’t let Ohtani go hitless against the Cubs could they?

By the way, still waiting for the league to charge Workman with an error from last week’s game against the Diamondbacks with two outs that led to a bunch of runs scoring the eighth inning. Somehow this play wasn’t an error and Porter Hodge’s ERA has suffered for it.

Whatever. Stupid MLB.
