Paige VanZant, Bryce Hall horror film with 50 Cent set for nationwide release in July
Ex-UFC fighter and current Power Slap competitor Paige VanZant as well as social influencer turned bare-knuckle fighting enthusiast Bryce Hall are finally set to scream and bleed on the big screen.
Skillhouse — a horror film being produced by Ryan Kavanaugh’s GenTV productions — is set for a nationwide release on July 11 via Fathom Entertainment. Deadline first reported the news.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson stars in the lead role in the film with Josh Stolberg, who is best known for his work in films such as Saw X, Jigsaw and Piranha 3D, directing the film.
The film is billed as “a high-stakes social media nightmare where 10 influencers are lured into a sinister content house and forced to compete in lethal social media challenges – because in Skillhouse, clout isn’t just currency; it’s survival.”
Kavanaugh, who has produced numerous major films during his career including The Social Network, The Fighter and Mamma Mia!, is probably best known to fight fans as a former owner of the social media network Triller, which is the same company that owns BKFC.
“Skillhouse has been a revolutionary film project from the outset – one that is thrilling and compelling for anyone on social media and horror fans of all ages,” Kavanaugh said in a statement.
“Skillhouse is more than just a horror film, the project is right for the times and breaks barriers by leveraging the power and appeal of influencers and immerses them into the story. GenTV is very pleased to work with the team at Fathom in creating a special theatrical engagement for this film.”
The movie serves as VanZant’s first major film role after she came to fame in the UFC before eventually leaving to sign a lucrative deal with BKFC. More recently, VanZant has been slapping her way up the ranks after joining Dana White’s Power Slap promotion.
As for Hall, he actually takes on one of the lead roles in the film, with part of the movie actually shot in Sway House — where many top social influencers including Hall first made their claim to fame.
Skillhouse lands in theaters on the same day as the highly anticipated Superman movie from writer and director James Gunn.
